BRIEF HISTORY
Miami-Dade is one of 67 counties in the U.S. state of Florida. With a population of more than 3 million inhabitants. Dade County was founded on January 18, 1836. Its official headquarters is in the city of Miami and is integrated into the southern super metropolis, together with Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Its name is in honor of Major Francis L. Dade, a soldier killed in 1835 during the Seminole Wars, in what is known as the “Dade Battlefield”. The name was changed to Miami-Dade County on July 22, 1997 (the name Miami, its most important city, was added).
